Dore M. Karasin
(April 28, 1969 - January 16, 2015)
Richford: Dore M. Karasin, 45, of Richford, NY passed away suddenly at
home on Friday, January 16, 2015. "The best portion of a good man's life: his little, nameless unremembered acts
of kindness and love." ? William Wordsworth. Dore was a good man. He was a caring, generous, and available friend. He
built two houses for his family to live and grow in. He loved to cook the elaborate gourmet meals his wife loved to plan.
He enjoyed gardening. He once built a pneumatic potato gun. For a few years he tried to engineer any way he could to foil
the squirrels that were devouring our birdseed. He enjoyed travel. He was the chair of Richford's Board of Appeals for
many years. Dore was born on April 28th, 1969 in Meadowbrook, PA. His family moved to Richford when he was 10. He graduated
from Newark Valley High School in 1988. He graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
in 1993. He worked for Raymond Corporation in Greene, NY for over 16 years as a Manufacturing and then as a Test Engineer.
For one year, he was a stay-at-home dad for our newborn twins, Sophia and Lily. For the last almost 5 years he has worked
as a Maintenance Technician at Vanguard Printing in Ithaca. Dore loved being an engineer and technician as well as building
our homes. As Lily and Sophia say, "Daddy's a really good fixer." Dore's most essential identity, though,
was as a dad. He prized family. He loved everything about being a stay-at-home dad when the girls were babies. More recently,
he loved planting with the girls, picking wildflowers, and walking in the creek with them. He loved reading, swimming, baking,
and building with them. He supported them as learners and athletes. He enjoyed the time he spent in their classrooms. He loved
when we stopped by his work to give him "daddy kisses," which the girls insisted we do several times a week. Dore
is survived by his wife of 19 years and childhood sweetheart, Cyndi Herrick; his 5-year-old daughters, Sophia and Lily Karasin;
his parents, Flora and Lou Karasin of Richford; his brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Marie Karasin of Ithaca; his nieces,
Allison and Mariana Karasin of Ithaca; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Barb and Ken Miller of Richford; his sister-in-law
and her partner, Candy Herrick and Robert Kemp of Indianapolis; his grandmother-in-law, Lula Birdsall of Cortland; as well
as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Please join us on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015 at 11 AM at Perkins Funeral Home, 55
West Main Street, Dryden, followed by a meal of fellowship at the Richford Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, we ask you,

Judith A. Thurston of Richford
(April 30, 1942 - July 23, 2014)
Judith ‘Judy’ Thurston, 72, passed away on July 23, 2014. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 53 years, Richard Thurston, and her sons, Mitchell S. and Tina, Mark R. and Michele, Morgan R. and Lori Thurston and her beloved grandchildren: Max, Sam, Bryan, Stacey, Alexi, Amber, Eric, Elaine, Ryan, Justin and Nate, and great grandchildren Daimeon, Brianna, Chloe, Cannon, Logan, McKenzie, Jayden, Sophia and Charis. Also surviving are her brothers, Robert Marshall III, and Timothy A. Marshall, several nieces and nephews. Judy was born in Cortland, NY on April 30, 1942 a daughter of the late Robert Jr. and Ruby (Brind) Marshall. She was a graduate of Newark Valley High School, a former employee of Cornell University and a 30 year employee of NYSEG. For the past 26 years, Judy has faithfully and conscientiously served as Richford Town Clerk. She was a Member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Later Day Saints, Ithaca Ward, a poet and a gardener. Most of all she was a loving wife mother, grand and great-grandmother who always felt she wanted to do more for each and every member of her family, in reality….she was simply THE BEST! Judy’s family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Sunday, July 27 from 3-5 PM. A Funeral Service and Celebration of her life will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 1 pm followed by burial in Highland Cemetery, Richford. Ernest Glen McFadden, age 82, of Richford, NY passed away Saturday, March
26, 2011, at the Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca. Born April 1, 1928, Ernest was a son of the late George and Elena Drew
McFadden. He served in the US Army from 1949 to 1955 and was employed at Cayuga Crushed Stone for 22 years and later worked
for the Town of Richford as well as owning and operating Ernie's Bait and Tackle. He was a life member of the Richford
Fire Dept. and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Laura
Herrick McFadden; his children, Nancy (Clyde Thompson) McFadden, Janet (Kenny) Gordinier; siblings, George "Jim"
(Dorothy) McFadden, Delores Robinson, Harry (Betty) McFadden, Trudy (Joe) Krauss; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren,
several extended family members, niece and nephews and his devoted dog, Rufus. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings,
Gerald McFadden and Joan Proctor. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at the Perkins Funeral
Home with Pastor Jim Sweeney officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Tuesday, from

Goodrich Lacey lived gently with inspirational respect for the earth's plants, animals and birds. Her inquisitive
mind found constant wonder in the natural world. Born on June 23rd 1919 Mary was the daughter of Helen D. Mack and Wirt
W. Goodrich of Rawson Hollow in Berkshire. She graduated Berkshire High School in 1937, and continued her education attending
the business school in Ithaca. She married Clarence Arba Lacey in 1941. Mary was a devoted wife and mother of six that created a supportive loving environment that nourished the creative spirit, and championed the personal achievements of her children and grandchildren. She fostered a household environment that nurtured her children's understanding of a world beyond their home in Richford. Mary's gentle spirit, bright intelligence and wit will be missed by her family. She enjoyed traveling with her family throughout the East Coast, California, Arizona, Illinois and Nova Scotia. She particularly appreciated her time spent vacationing on Cape Cod with her children and grandchildren enjoying the natural beauty of the seaside.
She was an avid gardener, a bird lover that could name a bird by its song, a voracious reader, and a skilled seamstress and quilter. Mary enjoyed researching the Mack and Goodrich family genealogy and sharing her knowledge with her family members. She was an active member of the Tioga County Historical Society, the Highland Cemetery board, and was a founding member of the Richford Fellowship group. Her participation in these organizations served as a model to her children and grand children that volunteerism and community service is an integral part of a happy life.
She is survived by children Joanne Carpenter of Richford, Jim (Susan) Lacey of Berkshire, Susan (Jim) Lacey Williams of Charlemont, MA, Peg Lacey of Ithaca, Helen Lacey (Glenn Crane) of Sierra Vista, AZ, Randy (Diane Gerhart) Lacey of Freeville. Grandchildren include Andrew (Bonnie), David, and Christopher Carpenter, Daniel (Anita) Lacey, Jennifer (Steve Gougeon) and Amanda Williams, Tina Lacey (Randy Nesbitt), Alex and Levi Crane, Sam (Courtney) and Forrest Lacey, and great grandchildren Brent, Hunter and Logan Carpenter, Ella and Olivia Lacey, and Aidan and Elliot Gougeon. Additionally, she is survived by her sister Jane Goodrich Mearian, Stamford, CT. She treasured her visits and time spent with her many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Clarence, son-in-law, Lynn Carpenter, grandchild Abigail Williams and sisters - Marjorie Yaple, Dorothy Brown, Ruth Makarainen and Jean Lacey.
The family is appreciative to the staff and caregivers for the warm and loving care that Mary received during her stay at Old Hundred. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made to the Lab of Ornithology.
A service of remembrance will be on Saturday, December 18th at 2:00 at the Berkshire Congregational Church, followed by a period of fellowship with the family.
Stephen M. Lawton
Steve was born on June 27, 1947 in Johnson City, NY. He was a graduate of Newark Valley High School class of 67. For the past 28 years, he has faithfully served as Highway Superintendent for the Town of Richford. He was a loving family man and took great pleasure in hosting small or large events at his home. He also enjoyed traveling with his family, working outdoors, hunting and fishing. Steve was a member of the Richford Fire Dept.
A funeral service and celebration of Steve's life will be held at 1 pm on Thursday at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley. Rev. Jackson Cox and Pastor Viki Andrews will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Richford. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm at the MacPherson Funeral Home.
